Street Rhythm

Something different …

We were in Glasgow on Saturday and saw this band, clearly fully signed up members of the Braveheart Appreciation Society, who gave a fantastic and percussive performance of some popular tunes.  These guys are actual quite a well-known sight on Buchanan Street and always draw a large crowd.  The lone piper looked as though he would be over faced by the drummers, but as anyone who has heard pipes play knows – it take a lot to drown out bagpipes.  these were shot with the GF1 using both the standard zoom and a long telephoto lens.  There is a bit of motion blur on some of the photographs, but again this really gives the sense of the energy of the performance.  Here is a short run of images, both in colour and black and white:

All the colour pictures were developed in Aperture and the black and white were then converted from the colour originals in Silver Efex Pro using a yellow filter preset.  Although each image was different the broad outline was: recover highlights, move the black point slightly right if needed and consider adjusting the brightness.  Add definition and hint of vibrancy.  Add a s-curve and carry out final adjustments to highlights and shadows.
