Colours

30Aug10

Pals is a very attractive Catalan hill town that has preserved most of its architecture at the expense of giving itself over to the tourist trade – a sad but understandable bargain.  There are lots os shops and boutiques vying for the visitors’ attention selling artisanal food (excellent, but pricey) and crafts through to more […]

Mission Church

24Aug10

Back to Blist’s Hill Victorian Town.  This is the 19th century Mission Church in the township – a far cry from the traditional stone-built churches that are associated with the UK.  This was more a large hut made from ‘wriggly tin’.  Indeed to me it looks as though it could have come from somewhere on […]

Forge Welding

22Aug10

Another from Blist’s Hill Victorian Town – a live demonstration of forge welding.  I thought that flash might be distracting for the smith and with fire and hot metal around I didn’t want to chance it; so, this is an available light shot. The dynamic range of this shot was considerable and I needed to […]

Following on from yesterday’s post, fields are being gradually cleared of their grain crops.  The oil seed rape is also being cleared away.  But the architectural items of the harvested fields are the bales of straw dotted around.  The weather has been rather mixed round here, as you can see, so the whole harvest is […]

Queen’s View

14Aug10

Coming back from a cycle round Loch Rannoch  deep in the Highlands on the eastern edge of the desolate Rannoch Moor we stopped at Queen’s View, a favourite stopping place of Queen Victoria.  This looks along Loch Tummel west towards Loch Rannoch and Rannoch Moor.  On the left is the mountain of Schiehallion, where the […]

This Morning

13Aug10

This was the sunrise on the way to work this morning.  It seemed too much of a gift to pass up; so, I made a hasty stop in a layby to take two pictures. I shot this in jpeg (by accident), and had dialled in a little exposure compensation in camera to reduce blown out […]

As none of my cameras has the latest new-fangled in-camera stitching or sweep technology for putting panoramas together I have to do this the old-fashioned way – through software.  I took some pictures to allow me to experiment with a new application I was trialling – DoubleTake. This shows the River Tay from near Dundee […]

Another quick walk along a local lane on a gorgeous evening (a pleasant change!): the light filtering through the trees was a beautiful golden colour and had a lovely quality. This is a straight out of camera jpeg.  No processing at all.  The crop was done in camera.

Into the light

05Aug10

I experimented with shooting into the light today for a different effect.  There had been a shower and then the sun burst out and filtered through the woods at Gateside Mills.  I tried deliberately overexposing one of the shots to get a rather different effect. Processed very simply in Aperture 3 with Definition and maximum […]
