Through the Gate

02Aug10

I rather liked the framing of this gate by the trees and hedge with the view through to the fields beyond.  It is in a small lane by Falkland, looking south through the fields to West Lomond Hill beyond.

The original picture was very monochromatic, albeit shades of green.  I therefore thought that it would be better to go the whole hog and convert it to black and white.  The pre-conversion work was limited to recovering the highlights in the glimpses of the sky.  It was converted to black and white in Silver Efex Pro using the Landscape setting, with some work to bring out the detail of the beans in the field beyond.  a slight vignette was added in Aperture.

Looks like an illustration from the “Secret Garden”…(and I mean that in a good way!)
