Flowers – Balmerino Abbey

22Feb10

Balmerino Abbey was a Cistercian foundation on the south shore of the Firth of Tay founded in 1227 by the second wife and widow of King William the Lion of Scotland, Queen Ermengarde.  It was badly damaged by the English in the ‘Rough Wooing’ of 1547, but only collapsed into ruin later during the Reformation.  Most of the ruins are considered too dangerous to visit; so, it was rather poignant to find this small bunch of flowers tucked beside a cross in the ruins of the nave.

A GF1 jpeg, slight recovery (for the highlights in the flower), contrast, definition and vibrancy all boosted.  Otherwise as it comes.
