Lungwort

19Apr10

Lungwort is coming into flower now.  It has surprisingly delicate pink flowers given the unattractive sounding name.  They look particularly pretty with small raindrops caught in their petals. This was a GX200 shot – it is an excellent macro camera – with a practically out of camera jpeg – just Aperture’s punch preset applied.

Light Rain

18Apr10

Typically, the weekend has seen the balmy, sunny weather of the working week replaced by cold winds and rain or drizzle.  However, I thought – and was proved right – that the light rain would lead to opportunities for photographing individual rain drops.  I like the way that the sky is reflected in this droplet. […]

Imperial Past

17Apr10

The largest terracotta fountain in the world is the Doulton Fountain at Glasgow Green.  Originally unveiled at Kelvingrove in Glasgow in 1898 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee in 1897 to celebrate Britain’s long past imperial achievements.  It was moved to its current site at Glasgow Green in 1890.  There are figures representing Canada, Australia, […]

Cherry Blossom

16Apr10

Finally spring seems to have sprung and the cherry trees are covered in blossom.  These are the trees at the entrance to Glasgow Green – absolutely covered in blossom. All GX200 shots, two are jpegs and one is converted from raw (highlight recovery again).  Otherwise, at this level, the difference is scarcely obvious at all. […]

Going Nowhere

15Apr10

There’s nothing quite so irritating as getting up at 5.00 am to catch a train to work and then find out that you have forgotten about a strike.  Sigh!  I thought the car park was rather empty – so was the station: This was a GX200 shot, converted from the Raw DNG file to enable […]

Urban Tiger

14Apr10

Running in Glasgow I passed this extraordinarily vibrant mural of a Tiger on a wall by the Clyde.  It was actually a piece of art work commissioned by Tiger Beer. This was converted from Raw (I was shooting B&W jpeg and Raw and this deserved the colour treatment.  Recovery was needed for some of the […]

Railings

13Apr10

The contrast between structure and shadow and between the light and darkness of these railings on the banks of the Clyde at the Broomielaw in Glasgow was eye catching.  So, I took a photograph – again visualising this as a black and white picture: This was a GX200 picture, developed from Raw in Aperture and […]

Spring

12Apr10

Spring is sprung, as they say.  Back from Italy it was a surprise to encounter Italian temperatures at home.  It has been a beautiful weekend with little wind and blue skies.  Although the hills still look a little brown from the long winter, the west of Scotland is as beautiful as ever.  Driving back from […]

Wine and Oil

11Apr10

The ability to produce wine and olive oil are almost the definition of the Mediterranean climate – at least that’s what my geography teacher told me a very long time ago.  I am sure that there are many more sophisticated definitions, but in Italy it certainly seems good enough for me.  Wine and oil are […]

Reeds

10Apr10

The southern end of Lake Garda is in relatively low lying countryside.  The northern end is surrounded by steep, high mountains.  The southern end has banks of reeds along it shores, which provided lots of scope for photographic experimentation.  This shot was taken in the evening near Sirmione.  There was only the lightest of winds […]
